Gerber 2 and 3 handle tub and shower faucet page 5.

Now to tighten the packing nut, I put the handle on to see how easy or hard the handle turns and I have the water on so that I can be sure the packing nut is not leaking and the handle still turns easy. Now put back the trim. This is new trim and yes it will fit on older Gerber faucets and old trim will fit on new stems. even the old old Gerber faucets with chrome sleeves and screw driver set chrome wall trim will fit on to the new stems and the new trim will fit on the old old faucets.  I also grease where the handle goes on to the stem, it makes it all come apart better in the future.

You can buy a complete Gerber repair kit that includes all 3 stems 3 seats 3 nipples 3 chrome finish plates 3 handles. Everything you need except the grease and the tools. This little baby is a ceramic stem that replaces the worm type Gerber stem. It has a stopping point so you know it's off and has a nice turning motion, This stem is made by Gerber and all trim fits on it just like the other stem. It is a washer less stem. you will need to remove the seats to use this stem. I personally love these stems and when ever possible will replace the standard Gerber stems with the Gerber ceramic stems.

Other things to note about the Gerber faucet The old faucets and the old old faucets had both hot and cold water stems turning left to open and right to close, the newer faucets, (the last 15 years I think) have the hot and cold stems turning in opposite directions. I think it is the hot that turns to the right to open and the left to close, I may have it backwards.

This type of faucet is not allowed in new construction because new codes require balance control and scald guard features, these Gerber faucets do not have them. But there is a large collection of Gerber faucets with scald guard and balance control on the market now.
